Reminder

As we fast and pray tomorrow we need to be very focused.  We are one week away!  This week we made history by seating another conservative on the Supreme Court…Thank You God!.  Next week let’s make history again!  I was reading about history this week, the history of Israel during the good king – bad king era.  Amazing reading in 2 Kings.  One story stirred my imagination and I will try to tell it here.  The nation was split at this time into the Northern and Southern kingdoms, each with their own king.  The names get confusing so I will try to explain the story as best I can.  The northern kingdom was called Israel and the southern, Judah.  The king of Israel, Joram had been wounded in battle and was in Jezreel to recover, so Jehu who wanted to take over set out to kill him.  I am trying not to get bogged down in details but Jehu catches Joram (Jehoram) together with Ahaziah, king of Judah,  trying to flee.  He killed them both.  The king of Israel and the king of Juda in one fell swoop.  Now, Joram was the son of evil Ahab and God wanted his dynasty finished.  So Jehu (God’s anointed one) went to Jezreel and found Ahab’s witch wife waiting for him.  He had her eunuchs throw her from her window and she died in the street under a horse hoof and the dogs ate her as per Elijah’s prophecy.  Jehu was not finished, he sent word to the palace in Samaria to send him the heads of Ahab’s 70 sons.  Then he killed everyone else in Ahab’s house.  Next, he killed all those who worshiped Baal, the god of Ahab.  In the meantime, in Judah, the mother of Ahaziah saw that he had been killed and proceeded to murder all of his children (her grandchildren) so she could be queen.  All except one who was hidden away for 7 years.  Mommie (Athaliah) was killed by the temple guards as they protected the 7-year-old king to be, Jehoash.  Amazing, see how our politics are not as bad as they could be?  I like elections better than all of the killing.  Please be encouraged by this story to vote on Tuesday if you haven’t already.

LIFE does not meet tonight but we will regather at the time of the closing of our polls on election day. We will take communion together and pray for God’s will to be done in the counting.
