Prayer and Fasting

Matthew 17:20-21, Jesus answers His disciple’s question as to why they could not rebuke a demon from a boy.  He says that it is because of your unbelief and says that their faith is to week and that this kind of miracle cannot happen without prayer and fasting. I submit that we need a miracle in our country to bring us back into oneness as God planned.  And I accept it as a privilege to fast and pray with all of you every week with this in mind.  We recently started a new thing in our community, a prayer meeting for the county.   We are meeting in a parking lot on our island on Sunday morning to pray for our community and our country.  Everyone is welcome to join us.

Peggy and I watched a movie last night, “A Dry White Season”, it was about the tremendous turmoil in South Africa during Apartheid (apartness in the language of Afrikaans) which was systematic segregation with deadly results.  After many years of struggle, they finally won and peace was restored.  In Acts 17:26 God tells us that He has made us from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth.  Nation in Greek is Ethnos or ethnic groups and we are also told that in the end times these ethnic groups will rise up against one another (nation against nation).  Folks I know we have been in the end times for a long time but I believe that the demonic spirit which is driving this wedge between us needs to be made to come out by prayer and fasting.  Being a preteen and teen in the south in the ’40s and 50’s I had my problems with Martin Luther King, Jr. but one thing rings in my head, he said, that he dreamed of a day when people would be judged by character and not the color of their skin.  I have tried to live by that and I pray that all sides would learn the lesson.  Tomorrow as we pray and fast together I pray that we can be one in the Lord and remember that we are family, we are one.

God bless and keep you, Jim

LIFE does not meet tonight but please join us on Sunday morning.
