Hope

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.  This morning I read a piece that is probably our last hope (worldly) for keeping our country free.  The vote now goes to the congress for a final decision on the future of our nation and we will find out if the coup is complete.  We have prayed, posted, ranted, pleaded, and given money to help this result in a positive outcome.  Now I realize that prayer and trusting God is the only thing that matters.  The writings of two very wise men have helped me grasp the outcome, no matter what it is.  Solomon said, “Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life.  Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what He has made crooked?  Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God.  Remember that nothing is certain in this life.”  (Ecclesiastes 7:12-14).  An old friend of mine (Charlie Ray)  paraphrased part of this many years ago as “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor; rich is better.”

After Jesus taught that we should not fear man because he can only take your life and not your soul another wise man, Paul said, “to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21). I have just finished an extensive study of the book of Jeremiah and the people of God did not obey then and His people were carried off to Babylon while those remaining were systematically removed.  If God thinks we need some further training through hardship because of disobedience, who am I to argue?  I will pray right through the vote in congress that He will have mercy and give us 4 more years of peace but I will also accept His answer and continue to walk in faith, trusting Him for my hope is built on Jesus’ blood and righteousness.  We have plenty to pray about tomorrow as we fast together.  God bless you and keep you, Jim

LIFE meets tonight at 7:00.  Some of us have not been attending the building most call church and I for one miss singing Christmas Carols together.  So I have acquired some hymn books and tonight I hope we can join together and sing some of the joyous songs of His coming and whatever else Holy Spirit decides.  Please join us for coffee and cookies at 7:00
