“God is my refuge, God is my strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling.” Sounds like someone was reading my morning paper! It is not, it is Psalm 46 which was a reminder to the children of Israel of how God had delivered them from destruction in 2 Chronicles 20 and again in Isaiah 33. They had seen many storms in their heritage as have we. I think God is reminding us of who He is and what He has done for us here as well; in the midst of a very troubled world both physically and politically. God is our refuge, come what may! As I thought about this word, I read something from Smith Wigglesworth that blessed me in this same vein. He said, “ I believe God wants something to be in you that would never be unless you cease to live for yourself. God wants you to live for Him, to live for others. But, oh, to have the touch of God! Beloved, the Holy Spirit is the Comforter. The Holy Spirit did not come to speak of Himself, but He came to unveil Him who said, ‘Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.’ (Matt. 11:29).”
Let not your heart be troubled by all of the bad news, God is your refuge, and your strength, your very present help in any kind of trouble ….and He wins! Amen.
As we fast and pray tomorrow please be mindful of the people of Iran and our nation as well.
