Fasting

Well, it came calling this past week.  COVID 19; Coronavirus; WUHAN Flu or whatever scary names they are using this week.  Peggy and I went out to dinner with my son and his wife at a local restaurant for father’s day.  Their two daughters handled our table and we had a great evening.  On Tuesday we were notified that a few of the employees at the restaurant had the virus.  So we arranged to be tested on Wednesday morning.  We were told to quarantine until we got the results.  That took a week and we were both negative, thank God.  Peggy has an autoimmune disease and we have been so careful during this scare so you can imagine the relief when we were told that we were negative.  In the same week, a dear friend for over 40 years died of the virus after 40 or so days in the hospital.  With all of this and all the hype provided by the media, I think everyone must have been concerned about themselves and their families.  But as I said last week we were safe and secure from all alarm and leaned on Psalm 46 for strength.  Apparently the “fear” is still with us with the news about all the new cases.  Some of my Christian friends have said they will not wear a mask and I can appreciate where they are coming from, but I will not jump off a tall building and I will wear a mask when I am out even though I know that my God will protect me.  I do not want to be guilty of bringing it home to my wife.  Great positive note:  Last night I saw a post from a lady in our community calling us to be kinder and gentler with each other in these trying times.  I suggested we get together to pray as a community.  Someone else said ok let’s do it, so I suggested Sunday morning at 11:00 at a large parking lot on our island and the board lit up.  I said that prayer is what will make a difference and so we all agreed to meet this Sunday to start it off.  Any of you in our community who would like to join we will be in Mercer Plaza parking lot and I plan to kick it off with 2 Chronicles 7:14 which I have seen quoted often in recent days. God is amazing!!!

Still much to pray about during our fast tomorrow, bless you!  Jim

LIFE meets tonight at 7:00 and as it is 1st Tuesday we will have communion before we delve back into Hebrews.  Please feel free to join us there.  Call me if you need more information.
