I read Psalm 19 this morning and as I pondered why I was struck with a thought. Interesting as we are not eating tomorrow it has to do with food. Verses 8-11 tell of His commandments being right and good. He says that the laws are fair and more desirable than gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who OBEY! Great read. I do not know anyone who does not like honey so it seems right that God mentions it so often in scripture as the ultimate sweet and great source of food. By the same token, however, I do know anyone who enjoys being stung by a honey bee, I understand and have experience that it is one of the worst stings. We have many examples in scripture of things we perceive as good being dangerous to be involved with. Thank the Lord we have apiarists (beekeepers) who manage the hives and retrieve the honey for us. I have a friend here who keeps bees and he has learned to obey the rules set down by the bees and avoids being stung and as a result I can enjoy the fruits of his labor without the danger. As David ends the Psalm he says, who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression. And then what a prayer he prays, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer”
Praise God, like some many things in life, if we want the sweetness we must understand the danger and Who it is that keeps us from falling.
Wait in the Hebrew is quvah which is their word for binding together like the strands of a rope to increase the strength. We need to wait (bind together) on the Lord and lean not on our own strength. God bless you and now that I planted the honey idea, I hope you enjoy. Jim
