Fast and Pray

Fast and Pray
I am greatly blessed today as my first cousin who is two years older than me has finally (after saying for 20 years) made the trip from the Outer Banks of NC to pay us a visit. He and his wife arrived last night and we are fellowshipping and catching up today. My heart has always gone out to him. His dad, my uncle, Thomas Sullivan was about to be married in 1940 but the Navy had other plans. We shipped out leaving her pregnant and not married. In November of 1942 his ship, the USS Atlanta was sunk in the battle of Guadalcanal after having fought through Midway and other battles. Thomas never came home! Robert (Bob) named after his granddad became a boat builder and charter fisherman in Kitty Hawk. He is still there and now serves as mate to his son on his charter boat and is not building much these days. I am reminded of the blessing of family, I think of the families in Abraham’s day who knew several generations of family. I think that we quite normally began to take family for granted. I love my family and have tried to keep us together as we grow, and for the most part they are near and we share life together. Bob is a humble man and has remarried after his wife died several years ago and also works at keeping his family intact. As we pray and fast tomorrow let’s remember how precious family is and find a way to honor them as we lift them in prayer.

Life meets tonight and Bob will be joining us.
God bless you, Jim
